Junior Eagles Walk It Off to Defeat the Junior Patriots

TTBC Junior Eagles 5- 4 TTBC Junior Patriots

With arguably the best youth baseball talent in Hong Kong, the game between the TTBC Eagles Juniors (4-0) and the TTBC Patriot Juniors (2-2) was a game that was not to be missed.

Khai Harris Walking Up to His Favorite Song

The Saturday game went the full seven innings and ended in dramatic fashion with a 5-4 walk-off victory for the Eagles over the Patriots.

Two singles by the Patriots in the top of the third inning got the scoring started with Adrian Unertl’s double put the Patriots ahead 2-0 by the middle of the third.

However, David Ma and Roy Son’s doubles in the bottom of the third inning gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead.

The Patriots scored in the top of the fourth on a passed ball to make the score 3-3. In the bottom of the fifth, Gusak’s groundout put the Eagles up 4-3.

At the top of the seventh inning, with the tying runner at second, Quinn “Ms. Clutch” Lawler (who by the way, has arguably the best technical swing in Juniors) sent a line drive to center left to drive in the tying run.

But the Eagles were not going to just lay down and die. In the bottom of the seventh, it started with Andes Chai and David Ma both getting on base, and with the go-ahead run at third, Gabe Gusak walked it off, sending a sacrifice fly ball out to right field that drove in the winning run!

Roy Son Batting and Harrison Waag Catching

The Eagles hitting was potent, as it was a team effort led by Gusak, Ma, Son, Chai, and Ryan Lem. Chai led the Eagles, who went three for four, while Lem went two for three with two stolen bases. As for the Patriots, Lawler was the clear leading hitter going two for three and two RBIs.

Pitching

Starting for the Eagles, Andes Chai pitched the maximum 95 pitches over five innings, striking out seven and walking five while allowing just two hits and three runs (two earned). Khai Harris came in as relief for the Eagles.

As for the Patriots, Adrian Unertl was on the bump, pitching over four innings. The right-handed pitcher struck out three and walked one while allowing six hits and three runs. Harrison Waag came in to relieve for two innings.

On Saturday, the Eagles will play their next game away against the Angels, while the Patriots face the SSPBC Phoenix – see more information on the Calendar page.
